    Description

This is a vintage Japanese late Edo Era (c. 1850)
    buffalo
horn name stamp known as an
    i
    nkan
    .
In Japan and China one does not sign, but rather stamp ones name with a chop or inkan like this one. This inkan has a nicely carved name in Chinese characters on both sides (see pictures).
This inkan stamp measures 2" long by 5/8" square (5 x 1.5 cm). This stamp remains in
    good
    condition
    ,
with a very clear stamp mark as seen my pictures.
