    Description

RARE Belgian Original 1st Release Poster On Back Of Map -
    The Light That Failed (1939)
    ,
Ronald Colman, Ida Lupino, Walter Huston, Muriel Angelus, Dudley Digges, Rudyard Kipling, William Wellman, Blindness
Next up is this rare Belgian movie poster from the first release of William Wellman's
    wartime romance,
    The Light That Failed
. Based on Rudyard Kipling's 1891 novel of the same name, this film starred Ronald Colman as an artist who is going blind and Ida Lupino as the cockney girl who provides him inspiration.  This poster is from the original first release of the film in Belgium in 1946, shortly after the end of the war in Europe. It is printed in the smaller immediate post-war format on the reverse of a WWII ordnance map which was done to conserve paper. This 1st release poster is in excellent condition and features striking artwork unique to this Belgian poster. Personally, I don't think it's the most flattering portrait of Lupino but after seeing some production stills, she really did look like that in the film (see last image). This poster seldom (if ever) comes up for sale or auction.
