  • Condition: Over all in my opinion this tray is in amazing condition, with a 3 1/2 inch edge strip of silver edge missing , easy fix. The edge has been nailed is areas with tiny nails again easy fix.The handles appear perfect on one end the other may or may not have a blossom missing.

    Description

    This Sterling over laid Tray would be from the late Meiji period, and  would have had the complete silver setting for a Samurai Shokai tea set . The silver has not been polished to show it's age,  but polished up this tray is amazing with lily pond flowers and reeds on each corner. The back has the original signed plack from SAMURAIL SHOKAI, YOKOHAMA, STERLING ON THE BACK.The handles may be missing a couple of blossoms , not sure, and one 3  1/2 '' inch stip needs replacing on the outside edge ,which is not visible and in my opinion effects nothing, and the edge has been set with some tiny tacks again an easy fix. The  RARE  BURLED wood is amazing nice and thick, and the raised feet shows this tray off to it's best. This company went out of business in 1942 because of the war needs, and never returned.  26'' x17'' x3 , very large tray. This is a nice thick hard wood ,with a burl in the middle, showing it beautiful color changes.
