This is a very RARE  and COLLECTABLE
carefully RESTORED
early 1940s (possibly earlier) SPANISH Stone Lithographic FILM POSTER
I have not seen this poster anywhere, in any format in nearly 20 years of poster collecting in Spain.
A good investment piece since it features the kings of comedy, STAN LAUREL AND OLIVER HARDY, in what must be an early compilation movie of silent films.
Under the Spanish Title of
LAS AVENTURAS DE JAIMITO
the poster features the actor who was probably the star of all the shorts involved - LARRY SEMON - who worked with both Laurel and Hardy, but SEPARATELY, before the two greats were brought together by Hal Roach.
SEMON was a popular comic internationally, known in Spain as JAIMITO (later as TOMASIN), in France as ZIGOTO, and in Italy as RIDOLINI
.
THE SCENE DEPICTED IN THE POSTER IS UNDOUBTEDLY FROM THE 1918 SILENT SHORT "FRAUDS AND FRENZIES", in which SEMON starred with Laurel as support. Hardy was not in this movie.
The artwork is by the LLO-AN studio (Llorca and Angel Camacho), who were among the big names in poster illustration in Spain in the 1930s.
THIS PIECE WAS professionally RESTORED AND LINEN-BACKED
by museum paper restorers. They had to do a lot of work as key areas had paper loss. And they did us proud, because the results were just fantastic. See photos. The colours are strong. I turned down the option of having the paper bleached so the poster would keep its aged look. Some people like bleaching. I think it works on some more recent posters, depending on colours, but here I would consider it to be inappropriate.
Size approx 27 X 39 INCHES (70 X 100 CM) plus linen border of around 2cm.
