    Description:
    This is a Japanese Kyo
    -ware porcelain incense burner made by NISHIKAWA Shunrei (
    西川春嶺
    in Japanese).
    He was born in Kyoto in 1933 and produced porcelains used at tea ceremony.
    He won many prizes at competitions for potters. (photo #12)
    This is an incredible piece of work with strong traditional Kyoto accent and flavor.
    It is decorates with so called "Kinran-De" (金欄手 in Japanese) style, i.e. with gold and red color.
    The design is called "Shon-Zui" (祥瑞 in Japanese) meaning "Auspicious Sign".
    In fact, it is decorated by many auspicious motifs such as a combination of pine, bamboo and plum as well as other traditional auspicious patterns. (photo #9 ~ 11)

    It is in excellent condition.
    The wooden box is original signed by NISHIKAWA Shunrei
