Uchishiki Embroidered Buddhist Altar Tablecloth
This is a vintage Japanese Buddhist altar tablecloth or
uchishiki
. Made of silk and other woven fabric, the backside is white with a floral pattern while the front is gold with an embroidered gold phoenix with green, white, and pink details.
Uchishiki
is mainly used by followers of Jodo Shinshu Buddhism on the upper table (
Maejyoku
) and the front table (
Uwajyoku
) in the Buddhist altar during events such as New Year's Day, the equinoctial week, Obon, and memorial services.

Good condition considering its age. Stains, especially on white cloth. Fold marks on the top corners. Wear and tear due to age. Please see the photos carefully.
