Playing his entire pro career with the Boston Celtics,
Russell,
born in 1934,
was
key to making the Celtics one of the great sports dynasties of all time (not to mention winners of 11 NBA championships in 13 years between 1956 and 1969).
He became
the first Black NBA (and major U. S. sport) head coach in 1966
and was
enshrined in the Hall of Fame in 1975.
