Antique Japanese Taiko / Tanggu Drum
Great decorator piece, strong presence, pictures does not do it justice.
This Antique Japanese Taiko / Tanggu Drum is over 100 years old.
1890’s – 1910’s or older.
The drum has a beautiful original age patina.
It is made from carved Keyaki wood and made from using a single piece of wood.
Beautifully hammered Iron Handle / Ring with iron studding to keep the drum skins into place.
In the Shinto temples it is meant to hang from the ring to be played.
Wonderful home décor item to add Japanese taste in your room.
Fantastic addition to your Japanese item collection.
Size:
13 ¼” tall x 11” wide in center
10" wide diameter on top and bottom
Condition:
Wood has original finish, there is one nail head missing, the skin on top was cut for the vase and bottom skin is intact with a hole
This drum was made into Plant Cover Wasabi Art Flower Vase in the past.
It makes a great vase or side table. Or can be restore back to its original purpose as a musical instrument.
