his is a late Meiji Era (c. 1900)
Suzuri
(ink stone) made of hand crafted slate stone.  On the bottom it has the signature of the Japanese craftsman who made this suzuri (see photos 7 & 15).   It is perfectly square with a recessed circular center and a water well at one end.
Along with a warm aged patinaand some minor ink stains, t
his suzuri ink stone remains in
very fine condition
. It measures a compact 4" square (10 cm) by  3/4" thick (2 cm).
