Description
This is an antique hand made Japanese nit comb (kusi
) from the early Showa Era (c. 1930).
It was used to remove lice as well as nits or lice eggs from ones hair, and was made of a hard durable Japanese
boxwood. This type of comb was instrumental in setting and maintaining ones hair. The last 2 pictures shows the formal hair style of a geisha from over 200 years ago. It has an original paper tag on one side which reads (translation upcoming).
This nit comb
measures 3 1/2" long and 2" wide (23
x 5 cm) and comes complete with original hardwood handle. The thickness is approximately 1/8" (0.3 cm). It was
never used
and still has the 90 year old merchants paper tag (see picture 5). Along with a warm aged patina this comb
remains
in
very fine
condition.
