This book is an antique Japanese woodblock printing from 1894 (Meiji 27th year) of the writings of the Eight Masters of the Tang & Song Dynasty, (
Tosouhakkabun
唐宋八家文).  This volume includes the writings of
Han Yu 韓愈 768-819.
All pages are made by using wood block prints and using two pages per print (see picture 10). This book contains over 50 of these pages
. The paper this book is made of took over 200 days to make and is made of the inner bark of the
gampi
(mulberry) tree to last virtually indefinitely. The book was hand bound with traditional Japanese 4 hole binding (see picture 4).
Despite its age, the calligraphy is still very clear, and the pages turn easily. With exception to signs of use and corner staining, the book remains in
fine condition
. The book measures 6" wide by 8 3/4" tall by 1/2" thick (13.2 x 19.3 x 1.3 cm).
