    Description

Offered is an ANTIQUE JAPANESE BRACELET, NENJU, consisting of 19 CARVED PRAYER  BEADS. Japanese prayer beads are unique in design, the Japanese hold them in their hand and pray going from bead to bead. Prayer beads, bracelets were made from 1683. Each bead is a CARVED SKULL, each a bit different, unique. Nine beads go in one direction, the other nine go in the opposite direction, so they meet at the large skull. The one large bead has a signature or message, which I could not decipher, see photo. Each bead measures about 3/4 inches long and 5/8 inches wide.
The large bead is about 1 inch long, 3/4 inches wide.
These measurements are approximate, each one varies very slightly. Outside length is about 13 inches. I really do not know the exact variety of hardwood used. I cannot be sure this is the original rope used, but it is not newly re-strung. Great
patina. No damage to the carving of the skulls. Really amazing workmanship! Guaranteed to be as described or full refund. Thanks for looking.
