    Description

An Antique Japanese 19th century (~1890's) sagemono Tobacco Pouch.  Dragons are throughout this high fashion hanging object which displays the finest of metal work in the era.  The fabric design is embroidered and depicts the general theme, of a 3 toed dragon chasing a pearl.
For all its glory, time or an event must have worked upon the liner of the pouch and a restoration effort was called for.  On Inspection, it seems professional effort was given to replace the otherwise leather liner (of these pouches) with a period suitable fabric.  All the ornamental works where preserved less the button for the main flap, but curiously no depression where it would have been.  The inner flap has an added button clasp which, under magnification, reads "Made in France."  Of great benefit, the metal works are in great shape and not even a crack is seen in the prone to damage Netsuke at the end of the chains.  Yes, this pouch was cared for then, and today just a few pulls of thread have add to the veneer.  What a great addition for a collector.
The pouch measures 5.5" wide, 3.5" high and 0.8" thick and weighs under 0.2 kg.  The chains and Netsuke add 5.5" to the height.
