    Description

Belgian Original Re-Release Movie Poster -
A Day At The Races (1937),
Marx Brothers, Groucho, Harpo, Chico, Margaret Dumont, Allan Jones, Maureen O'Sullivan, Irving Thalberg, Classic Comedy, Horse Racing
Next up is this seldom seen original Belgian movie poster from the first rerelease of the Marx Brothers seventh film
, A Day At The Races
. This was the brother's second outing for MGM after their huge success in
    A Night At The Opera
. This is also the final film produced by Irving Thalberg before his tragic death. Though not as successful at the box office as
    Night...
, it is still considered one of the brother's finest and funniest films. This poster is from the 1st re-release of the film in Belgium. It was most likely released shortly after the war in Europe (1945 from the date on the snipe) since in is printed on the back of another movie poster (
    Viva Villa!
, I believe) in the smaller post-war format to conserve paper. The magnificent artwork mimics the Al Hirschfeld artwork from the 1937 (pre-war) release of this film in Belgium, but is not exactly the same. I have only seen a couple of examples of this poster come up for auction in the past (there are many more examples from the pre-war version around). Despite the residue in the bottom border, this poster is in great condition for its age with vivid colors and no other visible defects. It very rarely comes up for sale or auction and would make a great addition to anyone's Marx Bros. or classic comedy poster collection.
