Possible replacements
It is possible to replace the 5C4S kenotron with two if the rated voltage is not higher than 400 V. The second option is to replace the 5C8S kenotron, which allows a much larger rectified current (420 mA). However, this replacement is not always possible because of the higher glow current in 5c8S: 5 A against 3 A in 5c3S, because of the possible lack of a contact panel for 5c8S, or because of the relatively lower voltage at the anode: 450 V against 500 V, if 5c3S is used in the circuit at maximum permissible operating modes.
