Life Test: Why it is important!
Especially with USED Tubes!
For tubes with Mutual Conductance (Gm)
, the life test reduces the cathode temperature to determine the tube?s life reserve. Many tubes can test
good
, well above the minimum Gm, but fail the life test which means the tube should be rejected. If the tube has a large life reserve, the meter will deflect very little, or not at all, which means the tube will perform satisfactorily. According to Hickok, Sencore, and other brands of tube testers, if the meter deflects downward out of the
good sector
, the tube should be rejected and will not perform satisfactorily. We have many tubes that test
good
, but once the life test is made, it reveals the tube has little to no life reserve and is rejected. When we perform the life test and the meter deflects downward more than one or two meter divisions, but may still stay in the
good sector
, we still reject the tube since this shows the life reserve may be too low to last as expected. We would not sell this tube.
Many other testers, including the
Amplitrex
, only reduce the filament voltage on a life test for a tube with Gm. Reducing the cathode temperature by a specified percentage to determine the tube's life reserve is more dependable for tubes with mutual conductance to determine a tube's life reserve. Many of the better quality Hickok and other testers employ this method rather than just dropping the filament voltage down one division, e.g. from 6.3 to 5.0, which is the method used to determine the life reserve for a rectifier tube.
Rectifier Tubes
have no mutual conductance (gm). The life test on rectifier tubes is made by reducing the filament voltage, and if the meter deflects downward more than 25% the tube should be rejected (per Hickok, Sencore,
Et al)
. If a rectifier tube dropped 25% during the life test, we would not sell the tube. A strong rectifier tube with a large life reserve will usually deflect up a little and come back to the original test result. We have many 83, 5Y3, and other rectifiers that test as
good
as NOS, but when the life test is made, it reveals the tube has questionable, or little to no life reserve, thus will not perform satisfactorily.
Return Policy
We
are not unreasonable and this policy is simply for the few that abuse the system. This policy is not meant to deter you from buying this, but to deter the few that forced us to write it and will be enforced if needed. Be assured that I am the only one testing the tubes, taking pictures of the tubes, and know where the tubes came from. I do not rely on anyone else to provide me with any testing, or other information with regard to the tubes we are selling. I test the tubes and take pictures of relevant information of the tubes being tested which is included in the description. If a tube passes all the relevant tests, only then pictures are taken of said tubes for the sale. Why do I take pictures of the tube being tested? Why not? I am testing the tube and not much effort to take a pic of the relevant tests. It may also provide assurance that the tubes were actually tested as stated. All of our testers are calibrated, Hickok 750, TV-10D/U, Sencore TC28, and others, and the test results are not inflated; if anything they are conservative. Be assured that the tube you receive is as described and tested. I know that the tubes purchased are as stated in the description. If a return is forced there will be a 20% reclamation charge and you will be responsible to pay for return shipping with no exceptions. We cannot afford, or be held responsible, to ship items exactly how described and pictured around the world, then have it returned for no fault of ours, then have to pay for return shipping on top of the cost of handling & materials used in shipping that are supplied at no cost. If you have a problem with a tube and it is legitimate, just contact us for a resolution. We are legitimate and more than happy to work with legitimate buyers when an unforeseen problem arises, but we are against being scammed.
International Return Policy & Shipping
We are not unreasonable and this policy is simply for the few that abuse the system. This policy is not meant to deter you from buying this, but to deter the few that forced us to write it and will be enforced. There is under no circumstance returns for any reason WHATSOEVER. If you do not like this policy do not buy this item. If an international buyer forces a return, the buyer will be responsible to pay for return shipping and a 25% reclamation fee and return shipping. This policy is not negotiable and if you disagree with such a stern policy do not buy this item. If an international buyer fails to pay duty fees, vat fees, or any other customs fees, and the item is returned there is still NO REFUND due to the likelihood of tubes being broke in return shipping.
